Sign Rulers

Every sign is governed by a planet; the ruler’s character colours everything the sign does.

Mars

Mars governs here, which takes the direct route and pays for it afterwards.

Venus

Venus governs here, working through liking and being liked, and reluctant to force what could be charmed.

Mercury

Mercury governs here, handling the world by describing it — quick, and more interested in the next thing than the last.

The Moon

The Moon governs here, which makes the chart tidal: the same person at a different hour, and attached to what is familiar.

The Sun

The Sun governs here, which wants the thing done under its own name rather than anonymously.

Jupiter

Jupiter governs here, inclined to the larger version of the plan and to overshooting it.

Saturn

Saturn governs here, built for the long form: slow, durable and unimpressed by speed.
